Charity 2010/11 PDF Print E-mail

The nominated charity for Brisbane RSC, for season 2010/11, is the Queensland Flood Appeal. Following discussions at a recent club meeting it was decided that BrisbaneRSC would chooses the flood victims of Queensland as this year’s nominated charity. It was also decided that rather than send all our collected monies directly to the Australian Government as part of their collection, we would at end of season pick a local organisation (i.e. sports team, volunteer group) and present them with our fundraising collections. The thinking behind this is that club has a say in who we directly help and we as a club can choose who we think would benefit more.

We all know someone who was directly or indirectly affected by these floods and many of us have already volunteered or have already given to the appeal but any donation to this cause would be gratefully appreciated and we will ensure that the people, who need it, get it.

Donations can be made through our shop on the web http://www.brisbanersc.com/shop.html or at any of the games from now until end of the season. The nominated organisation will be selected at our AGM. If you know would like to nominate any local organisation in your area to receive these funds then please feel free to let us know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Brisbane Floods update - Saturday AM PDF Print E-mail
Written by Andy

Hello Hello Brisbane Bears and all our friends from overseas who've been visting the site in recent days.  The clean up situation is now in full swing and we hope that you've been able to assist friends, family or just anyone who needs a hand.

The good news is that a few of our members houses had lucky escapes but i'm sure we'll hear about a few that haven't been so lucky. Even if houses are ok, people like our webmaster Pete seem to be land locked, without power, low food supplies and with kids to keep amused so there are people still doing it tough.  Its been a real stressful time as we continually check facebook updates to see how people are getting on.  Some good news from Middle Park, were Gary Love's place just managed to avoid the water which if you've seen his facebook video just before the peak tide seems like a miracle.

I was on duty for Council, at the QE2 Evac centre last night and lots of people have lost everything. It's really humbling but most seem to putting on a brave face and are welcome of all that's being done.  The Evac centre's have been overwhelmed by generosity of donations of food, clothes, bedding etc but they can't take anymore donations and they are fully staffed with Red Cross, Lifeline, Mission Australia and other trained volunteers.

The volunteering today has overwhelmed Council resources so I'd expect more muster points to be in operation from tomorrow but that's not confirmed yet. Again, please stay off the roads if you don't have to be out and about as good samaritans are clogging up flood affected suburbs.

Finally, to all those who haven't made a donation please do so wherever you are in the world.

WATP

Brisbane Floods - Thursday 11am update PDF Print E-mail

The news and pictures are terrible and our hearts go out to all those who've experienced flooding.  The Premier's advice is to help family and friends first where safe to do so.  The Queensland Police Service facebook page is a great source of upto date information: http://www.facebook.com/QueenslandPolice

I went to Council's Carindale office this morning and clean up plans are being prepared, contact centre well staffed and doing a great job with some also taking SES calls.  Police advice is to please stay off the roads and out the water unless necessary.  Lord Mayor to make announcement this arvo on clean up plans.

For familiy and friends in the UK, the TV news says no Brisbane lives lost so everyone is safe even if properties may be water damaged.  The power is off in lots of places and phones may be switched off to save batteries. People may be cut off for the next few days so please be patient if your waiting for news. If your interstate or overseas and want to help please donate to the Premier's flood appeal at http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html

Some hard days and weeks ahead for lots of people and our prayers are with you!
